How to Manage User Permissions Based on Categories

In Bold Reports Server, you can manage user permissions for specific categories of reports. Follow these steps to control user access:

1. Create Categories

   Create categories like “Sample Reports” and “Production Reports” for organizing reports.

   

2. Navigate to the Users Page

   Go to the Users page and select an existing user or click New User to add one.
   

   

3. Assign Permissions to a User

   • Select the user and click Manage Permission.
     

     

   • Click Add Permission and choose Reports in Category.

   • Set the scope to a category (e.g., Sample Reports) and the access mode (e.g., Create).

   • Click Add to apply.
     

     

     If you need to assign additional permissions (Read, Write, Delete), repeat the steps for each.

     

4. Assign Permissions to Multiple Categories

   For a user like User2, repeat the above steps to select multiple categories (e.g., Sample Reports and Production Reports) and assign the appropriate permissions.
   

   

Access Permissions Overview:

• User1 has access to the Sample Reports category.
  

  

• User2 can access both Sample Reports and Production Reports categories.
  

  

Verifying User Access:

• Login as User1: User1 can only see the Sample Reports category.
  

  

• Login as User2: User2 has access to both categories.
  

  

This method enables efficient management of user access by categorizing reports. User2 has the flexibility to review reports in the Sample Reports category, which may have been created by User1, and move them to the Production Reports category. In contrast, User1 is restricted to the Sample Reports category, with full permissions to create and manage reports within it, but does not have access to the Production Reports category.
