Getting Started with the Bold Reports Free Tier

Every Bold Reports account includes access to a free cloud-based Report Server. This Free Tier is designed to help users explore essential reporting features with limited resources and support. It allows you to get started quickly without requiring a subscription, offering practical experience with essential capabilities for creating, managing, and sharing reports.

This article provides an overview of the features and functionalities available within the Free Tier.

When users register for the trial, a user account is created using their email address, and five default reports are added for exploration.

Key Features of the Free Tier

1. Report Creation and Management
Support for creating, editing, and organizing reports using sample data templates and custom datasets.

  • Create Report: Users can create their own reports to meet specific reporting requirements.
  • Edit Report: Users can modify and customize existing reports to better suit their needs.

2.Data Source Management

  • Create Data Source: Users can create new data sources to import and manage the data displayed in their reports.
  • Shared Data Source : Users can access the AdventureWorks shared data source and create reports using this source.
  • Supported Connectors: The Bold Reports Free Tier supports a wide range of connectors, including
    • SQL Server
    • MySQL
    • Oracle
    • Web API
    • JSON
    • PostgreSQL
    • CSV
    • Excel
      …and more.

3.Dataset Management

  • Create Dataset: Users can create new datasets using an existing or newly created data source.
  • Shared Dataset: Users can create shared datasets within the designer using any available data source.

4. User Permissions

  • Users can edit and delete default sample reports, create new reports within existing categories, or create new categories to organize their reports.

5. Schedules

  • Users can create schedules to automatically send reports via email to specified users at designated time.

6. Data Integration

  • Users can access the integrated ETL tool and connect to multiple sources such as PostgreSQL, MSSQL, MySQL, Oracle, Google BigQuery, Snowflake, and Apache Doris databases via the Bold Data Hub for data transformation and aggregation.

Actions in the Bold Reports Free Tier

Upon accessing the Bold Reports Free Tier, users are directed to the Free Tire page, which features a user-friendly interface with a main menu on the left panel and available reports listed in the Recent section.

View Reports
  • In the report list, click on any report to open it in the report viewer, where you can view the report and use options such as filtering and exporting.

Edit Reports
  • To edit a report, click the Edit icon at the top right of the viewer.

  • The report opens in the designer, allowing you to modify it using drag-and-drop tools.

Saving a Report

  • Use the Publish button to save changes made to the report.

Report Preview

  • Click the Preview button to review data and layout before saving.

Create a New Report

  • To create a new report, click the “+” button on the left panel of the Free Tier page.

  • Select Start from scratch to begin designing a new report.

Upload Reports

  • Users can upload reports locally from their devices to the cloud server.
  • Click the “+” button and select Upload Reports to open the upload dialog and follow the steps to add reports.

Limitations in the Free Tier

  • Limited resources
  • No backup and disaster recovery features.
  • Accounts inactive for 15 days are automatically deleted, including all available content.
  • No access to premium features such as white-label branding, multi-tenant management, advanced compliance (e.g., HIPAA), or custom connectors
