How to Apply Axis Range Padding to Charts in Bold Reports
Published:
Updated:
Bold Reports® lets you adjust chart axis spacing using custom attributes, so data points do not touch the chart boundaries. This improves report readability by giving you finer control over the minimum and maximum limits of the X and Y axes. Range padding applies to numeric axes, and the default value is None, which means no padding is applied.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Access Custom Attributes in the Property Panel
- Select the Chart report item in the design area. Open the Properties pane on the right by clicking the Properties icon.
- Scroll down to the Miscellaneous section and expand it.
- Locate the Custom Attributes property and click the Set Attributes button.
Step 2: Configure Padding Attributes
- In the Custom Attribute dialog, click Add.
- In the Name field, enter
XAxisRangePaddingto change the horizontal axis orYAxisRangePaddingto change the vertical axis. - In the Value field, enter one of the supported padding values listed below.
- Click OK to save the changes.
Supported Padding Values
| Value | Description |
|---|---|
Additional |
Adds one axis interval to the minimum and maximum values of the range. |
Normal |
Applies padding based on the range calculation of the axis. |
None |
No padding is applied to the axis. This is the default value. |
Round |
Rounds the axis range to the nearest value that is divisible by the axis interval. |
Step 3: Verify the Layout in Preview
- Click the Preview button in the top-right corner of the report header.
- Before padding: Data points may appear compressed or sit directly on the chart edges.
- After padding: The axis range extends beyond the lowest and highest data values, so the data points no longer sit on the chart edges and the chart is easier to read.
