How to Customize Column Width and Spacing in Bold Reports Column Charts

Bold Reports allows you to customize the column width and spacing between columns in a column chart using the PointWidth attribute. Adjusting this property helps reduce visual clutter and improves readability for report viewers.
This guide is intended for Report Designers and Business Analysts working with the Bold Reports Web Designer.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Access Series Settings
First, navigate to the Series Settings of the chart.
- Select the Column Chart widget on the design surface. Open the Properties panel on the right side.
- Locate the Basic Settings section.
- Click the Edit icon (pencil) next to Series Properties.
Step 2: Open Custom Attributes
- In the Series Property panel, scroll down to the Miscellaneous section.
- Locate the Custom Attributes property.
- Click the Set Attributes.
Step 3: Add the PointWidth Attribute
Now, define the PointWidth attribute to control the column thickness.
- In the Custom Attributes dialog, click + Add.
- Enter
PointWidthin the Name field. Enter a decimal value between 0.1 and 1.0 in the Value field:- 0.1: Very thin columns with wide spacing.
- 0.4: Moderate width (recommended for most reports).
- 1.0: Columns appear without spacing between them
- Click OK to save the attribute.
Step 4: Preview the Results
Verify the changes in preview mode.
- Click the Preview button in the top toolbar.
- Compare the updated chart layout with the default layout to confirm improved readability.
